At the Annual Conference of the Economic History Society (EHS) in April, Wiltrud Mölzer presented a poster on the historical development of gendered labor market patterns in Austria between 1850 and 1950. The poster is part of the JobAds project and draws on newly digitized newspaper job advertisements from 29 Austrian newspapers.
The presentation focused on how historical job ads can be used to analyze occupational gender segregation, salary differences, and changing qualification requirements over time. The project combines approaches from economic history, labor economics, and digital humanities to study the transformation of the Austrian labor market through computational analysis of historical newspapers.
The conference provided an excellent opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange and many interesting discussions with researchers working on related historical and methodological topics. We especially appreciated the open and welcoming atmosphere of the conference and the valuable feedback on our work.
The full poster is available in the section “Research Results”.
